AO: SECTOR TEXAS
ASSETS: BRUISER 1, APOLLO 1, ARES 1, ANA FORCES
Bastam center is supported from the East, West, and South by an armored platoon and 3 companies of light infantry troops. Our ANA forces will hold 2 miles north of Bastam on Route Michigan and wait for Bruiser teams to secure their first OPs before moving in. Upon securing the first OPs, the enemy forces north of Bastam will be cutoff from their main element and ready for ANA to punch through them.
Once ANA make contact to the North, both Bruiser teams will move into the city center and setup OP Base at the mosque to treat casualties and defend the crossroads.
At 0300 Bruiser teams 1 and 2 landed in their holding positions outside of Bastam city center. At approximately 0400, both Bruiser teams engaged and began movement to OP1. Upon initial engagement, Bruiser 1 identified a platoon sized element with additional vehicle support in the surrounded sector. ANA forces immediately began engaging, and the Delta teams were cleared to move into the city.
Upon infil into Bastam center, both teams encountered heavy resistance, eventually making it to their second OPs. Bruiser 2 suffered heavy casualties, including 2 KIA, slowing them down substantially. At 0630 both teams made it to the main road, but were still recieveing heavy fire making the road crossing impossible. At this time, 2 BTRs and a T72 tank approached and garrisoned the town from the South.
Bruiser 1 was able to successfully destroy the 2 BTRs while Bruiser 2 was conducting triage, causing the T72 to pull back and wait for infantry support. At 0715 the T72 returned with a platoon sized element and engaged Bruiser 1’s position with heavy fire. An Apache gunship was called in, but was shot down 1 mile from the target area. Bruiser 2 was able to secure a firing position as the tank flanked OP2, and successfully destroyed the vehicle.
At this time, all teams moved into OP Base and a Blackhawk resupplied the entrenched troops. At approximately 1130 a massive company-sized counter attack was mounted, preceded by heavy shelling in the city. At this time, all Bruiser teams were still in OP Base for resupply, causing our flanks to fall to the side. A platoon sized element with technical support managed to take over OP Blue 3 and secure a Western flank on the main element.
After 30+ minutes of sustained fighting, ANA forces punched through the back lines and assisted in pushing the Guard south of Bastam. All units exfiled via Strykers and the ANA took over control of the city.
FRIENDLY CASUALTIES: 4 KIA, 11 WIA
ENEMY KIA: We have recorded 75 confirmed EKIA, with an estimated 90+
OBJECTIVE COMPLETED: We have secured Bastam and all of Route Michigan.
Today’s assault went exactly as planned. Our initial pincer move cut off 50+ enemy troops from their main element, allowing us to capture 35 live Guard prisoners. The intel we will receive from them will be priceless.
During the inital estimates, we expected a battalion sized element guarding the crossroads, however it seems they pulled many of their troops back when they saw us mobilizing. We also didn’t receive much resistance from the east, indicating that they did not deploy their troops currently defending the oil fields. All of that aside, we managed to fight back a company + of regulars with an attached platoon of armor and liberate Bastam.
Now that we have Route Michigan cleared again, logistics supply trucks will be able to move more freely and we have a much better operational range.
